Ft

Updated fees

The hourly fee is 800 HUF in Zone A and 600 HUF in Zone B for passenger cars.

Overview

What is changing?

The change is part of a wider parking reform adopted by the General Assembly of Budapest. One of the main reasons behind the reform is that the share of cash payments at parking meters has been decreasing for years.

In Budapest, payments made through parking meters now account for less than 10% of all parking payments. In Erzsébetváros, the number of parking tickets purchased from meters is less than 5% of all purchased parking tickets.

Frequently asked questions

Useful information before parking

The following answers summarise the most important practical rules about mobile parking, SMS parking, system failures and penalty handling.

When does the new parking system take effect?

The new parking system applies from 1 July 2026.

Will there be a transition period?

No. The changes take effect on 1 July 2026 without a separate transition period.

Parking meters may remain on the streets for some time, but parking tickets can no longer be purchased from them.

How can I start parking?

Parking can be started by mobile application or by SMS.

Parking is valid only after the successful confirmation has arrived. Starting a payment attempt is not sufficient by itself.

What if I do not have a smartphone?

SMS parking can also be started from a traditional mobile phone.

The SMS must be sent to the number belonging to your mobile provider. For example, in the case of Yettel: 0620763XXXX, where the last four digits are the zone code shown on the traffic sign.

The message should contain only the vehicle registration number, without hyphens or spaces. Example: ABC123

For vehicles with a foreign registration plate, the country code must also be added after the registration number, separated by a comma. Example for a Swiss vehicle: ABC123, CH

What happens if the mobile parking system or the application does not work?

Global system outages are reported to public parking operators by the National Mobile Payment Plc.

If a penalty notice is issued during a confirmed outage, the customer should report the case to customer service in person, by phone or by email.

If the penalty time shown on the penalty notice falls within the confirmed outage period, the penalty will be cancelled.

If the problem is caused by the mobile provider, for example the SMS service does not work, using a mobile application is recommended as an alternative. Penalties caused by a mobile provider’s own service failure cannot be cancelled.

Does a complaint extend the payment deadline for a penalty?

No. If you submit a complaint about a parking event, the payment deadline does not change.

Please pay the penalty by the 15th day after the parking event. Your complaint or official request will be reviewed and you will be informed about the decision.

Why do I still need to start parking if I already received a penalty today?

A penalty is linked to a specific parking event. It does not replace the obligation to pay the parking fee for any later parking period.

The parking fee must still be paid. The penalty is not considered a parking service fee.

Need help with a parking issue?

If you have a question about a penalty notice, mobile parking, SMS parking or a parking zone, please contact customer service and provide the vehicle registration number and the relevant parking details.
